The Fine Arts Museum from Grigore Antipa Street, no. 2, invites visitors to contemplate the work “Flowers”, belonging to the painting collection, work whose creator is Dumitru Ghiață (b. September 22, 1888, Colibași, Mehedinți – July 3, 1972 , Bucharest).

Life is so full of worries. Evil and trouble come too often and uninvited by anyone. But beauty is won through struggle, through passion. ”
Dumitru Ghiață

Dumitru Ghiaţă was born on September 22, 1888 in Colibaşi, Mehedinţi County, the son of Gheorghe Ghiaţă and Elisabeta Ghiaţă. During high school, his drawing teacher V. Ravici intuited his talent, and a few months later Ghiaţă began to attend the studio of the painter Artur Verona. Between 1913-1914 he attended the courses of the Ranson and Delecluze Academies in Paris, becoming acquainted with post-impressionist techniques, which he will assimilate in a personal way in his works: still lifes, landscapes and compositions in sober colors, with influences from folk art.
Ghiaţă was part, along with Petraşcu, Pallady, Sirato, Iser, Tonitza, St. Dimitrescu, Bunescu, Catargi, Ciucurencu from the brilliant pleiad of artists who have fully asserted themselves between the two world wars. He knew how to realize the confluence of what was more alive and related to the human in Romanian and universal art, having his own vision and style.

WORK OF January 2021 at Fine Arts Museum

By Events | No Comments

JANUARY 2021. The Fine Arts Museum from Grigore Antipa Street, no. 2, invites visitors to contemplate the work “Maternity”, belonging to the sculpture collection, work whose creator is Ion Irimescu (b. February 27, 1903, Arghira, Suceava- d. October 29, 2005, Fălticeni, Suceava).

Considered the most important Romanian sculptor of the last half century, Ion Irimescu is one of those artists with spectacular work and biography devoid of fate-changing events. In the many years he lived, he crossed several epochs and regimes, traveled, studied and exhibited in many countries, never getting tired.

“The sculpture did not require any effort, it was given to me as a gift from God.”
“The absolute beauty, which we actually covet, does not belong to us humans. If, by absurdity, we could reach him, we would reject him, because he would make us uncomfortable, not being in line with our earthly limits. It remains a dream, an ideal, which can never be realized. ”

DANUBE DELTA AND DOBROGEA – ROMANIA, legendary landscapes

As a Christmas present for this hard year, the well known researcher, Dr. Mihai Petrescu,  offers his new bilingual album comprising 160 pages of photos with comments.

A present which reminds us the beauty of nature and its soul healing powers.

Author’s words:

“Danube Delta and Dobrogea have remained a timeless land, even under the roller of modernism. It is rare to see a more lively place, with a hidden charm, which delights the eye but especially the soul. Here any extraordinary natural formation, the mountains, the Danube, the Black Sea, the various tribes of Dobrogea, all have a story, a legend that enhances their beauty and mystery. In order to enjoy the whole charm of these legends, however, I recommend reading them in original, especially the synthesis works, (C. Cealera, E.D. Gemală, A. Mitru  etc.). Some of the stories are unedited, being told to me by the locals, as an ancestral heritage.

No matter how incredible they may be, they deserve to be recorded, being the last snippets that the locals remember, from the treasure trove of stories inspired by Dobrogea, or brought from their homelands, along with relics or icons. Just as legends have a kernel of truth, also scientific truths acquire in Dobrogea the fabulous note of legends. The stories of Dobrogea recount about the vanished secular forests, now replaced by steppes, about islands and cities sunk in the incessant change of the course of the Danube or of the sea shores, about an underground network of rivers, natural caves, or tunnels dug for strategic purposes, many of which have not been identified so far.

The wonderful landscapes of former Dobrogea are today largely preserved in protected areas of European importance (Natura 2000). They represent true oases of natural beauty in an environment that becomes more and more artificial due to human activities. Besides the conservation of flora, fauna, geological environment, these protected areas have a cultural importance, through the associated legends, ethnicities or archaeological vestiges, with which I tried to complete the charm of these reserves in the present book. I wrote this book primarily for the public to fall in love with the land of Dobrogea and the Danube Delta, in the hope that this way this region will be better protected.”
