During June 16, 17, 2023, at the Noviodunum Fortress, located in the vicinity of the city of Isaccea, Tulcea county, a series of events with free participation, intended for the public of all ages, organized on the occasion of the EUROPEAN DAYS OF ARCHEOLOGY, will be held by the Institute of “Gavrilă Simion” Eco-Museum Research Tulcea, National Heritage Institute, Isaccea Town Hall, Pro Noviodunum Association.

TIME SCHEDULE

Friday, June 16

10.00 – 16.00 – Restoration workshop. We invite everyone who will cross our threshold to learn how to restore a ceramic vessel, in a themed workshop. Also, our colleagues will present the stages of restoration of some archaeological objects discovered during the systematic archaeological excavations at the Noviodunum Fortress.

10.00 – 16.00 – Archaeologist for a day. Our colleagues today, the little archaeologists, will participate in different activities, which will take place in the form of didactic games to learn through discovery what archeology means, restoring a ceramic vessel, reconstructing a stratigraphic sequence and drawing an object.

10.00 – 18.00 – “Step through the fortress”. Guided visits to the main archaeologically investigated sites at Noviodunum Citadel

14.00 – 18.00 – Public conference “Noviodunum 70 – Present and perspectives”. The team of archaeological site specialists will present the results of the archaeological investigations at Noviodunum. The theme of the event “Noviodunum 70” is the presentation of a synthesis of archaeological research for the 70 years since archaeological excavations have been carried out at Isaccea-Eski Kale.

18.00 – 20.00 – Archeology Camp. We are extremely excited to share the theme of Archeology Camps! This year we are embarking on an expedition that will conquer us regardless of age! We will return to the Past for an expedition to the world of researchers, make new friends, build cities, build a laboratory for research, have a Museum to study the evolution and history of the Triassic and until now, learn survival techniques , camping rules, but most importantly we will socialize and have fun!

Saturday, June 17

10.00 – 18.00 – “Step through the fortress”. Guided visits to the main archaeologically investigated sites at Noviodunum Citadel

10.00 – 21.00 – “Picnic at the fortress”. The action aims to promote the local cultural heritage, to improve the access and participation of the local community to the knowledge of the archaeological heritage. For this year, the “Picnic at the Fortress” event is thought and organized as a way of appreciation and gratitude for the exemplary mobilization of the local community in recent events.

14.00 – 18.00 – Public conference “Noviodunum 70 – Present and perspectives”. The team of archaeological site specialists will present the results of the archaeological investigations at Noviodunum. The theme of the Noviodunum 70 event is the presentation of a synthesis of archaeological research for the 70 years since archaeological excavations have been carried out at Isaccea-Eski Kale.”

WORK OF JUNE, 2023, at Avramide House

In JUNE 2023, at Avramide House in Progresului str., no. 32, the public can watch “Cana”.

“The tombac object (a brass alloy with a high copper content of 80-95% and 5-20% zinc content; tin, lead or arsenic may be added for coloring) is made in a Turkish workshop, dates from the end 18th century and is part of the oriental decorative art collection of the Tulcea Fine Arts Museum. It is exhibited at Avramide House in the temporary exhibition “Water Vessels”.

In June 2023, at the Fine Arts Museum in Grigore Antipa str., no. 2, the public can admire the “Vasile Alecsandri Bust” (terracotta, 1884), whose author is Ion Georgescu (1856-1898).

The work is part of the sculpture collection of the Tulcea Art Museum and is permanently exhibited.

“Ion Georgescu is considered the first modern Romanian sculptor.

He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, with Karl Storck, then in Paris, where he kept in close contact with progressive Romanian intellectuals. In Paris he was awarded a medal for the work “The Prayer of a Child”. He was also a teacher at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where he had as students Frederic Storck, D. Mirea, etc. The most famous works of the artist are the statues of Gheorghe Lazăr and Pache Protopopescu in Bucharest, the statue of Gheorghe Asachi in Iasi.

Ion Georgescu was a complex artist, approaching all genres of sculpture (portrait, statuary composition, monuments, relief), as well as oil and watercolor painting, being directly involved in the sphere of artistic education.”
