The Fine Arts Museum from Grigore Antipa Street, no. 2, invites visitors to contemplate the work “Flowers”, belonging to the painting collection, work whose creator is Dumitru Ghiață (b. September 22, 1888, Colibași, Mehedinți – July 3, 1972 , Bucharest).

Dumitru Ghiaţă was born on September 22, 1888 in Colibaşi, Mehedinţi County, the son of Gheorghe Ghiaţă and Elisabeta Ghiaţă. During high school, his drawing teacher V. Ravici intuited his talent, and a few months later Ghiaţă began to attend the studio of the painter Artur Verona. Between 1913-1914 he attended the courses of the Ranson and Delecluze Academies in Paris, becoming acquainted with post-impressionist techniques, which he will assimilate in a personal way in his works: still lifes, landscapes and compositions in sober colors, with influences from folk art.
Ghiaţă was part, along with Petraşcu, Pallady, Sirato, Iser, Tonitza, St. Dimitrescu, Bunescu, Catargi, Ciucurencu from the brilliant pleiad of artists who have fully asserted themselves between the two world wars. He knew how to realize the confluence of what was more alive and related to the human in Romanian and universal art, having his own vision and style.
